Sloupe, a “concept salon” and art gallery in Balham (SW London), opened a new exhibition of paintings by Jasmine Leonard, recent graduate from University of the Arts London (UAL). In partnership between Sloupe and Surface ICA gallery/arts consultancy, the show is on display from 5 October – 7 November 2013.
Where can I get coffee, art, and a birthday gift? Oh and a fab new hair-do?
There’s so much more to a hair salon these days; south of the River, it’s possible to stop into Sloupe (83 Nightingale Lane, London, SW12 8NX) and get cut and styled, enjoy a little retail therapy, have a cuppa… all while surrounded by fine art.

Styling their business as a “concept salon”, the owners of Sloupe wanted to combine two passions of art and beauty into one place. The ground floor puts together an espresso bar with an art gallery, where every month or so, new exhibitions are put up, showing work by established and emerging artists. After an art and coffee break, the client is led to the salon situated in the lower ground floor.

Current work on display are paintings by emerging artist, Jasmine Leonard, a recent graduate from Wimbledon College of Art (UAL). In her paintings, Leonard attempts to “emphasise the artificiality of experience, and the western gaze with which we receive these alluring spaces.”
